Heba Y. Amin | The Earth is an Imperfect Ellipsoid
„The Earth is an Imperfect Ellipsoid“ is a land surveillance project that utilizes Al-Bakri’s “Kitab al-Masalik wal-Mamalik” (The Book of Roads and Kingdoms), an eleventh-century Arabic geography text describing major trade routes in West Africa under the Islamic Empire. Using the fragments of text as a guide, Heba Amin embarked on a five-month journey along the same routes to document the contemporary geographies missing from the manuscript.

Stijn Ank | Fresco
Belgian artist Stijn Ank is showing two parallel solo exhibitions at Künstlerhaus Bethanien and Galerie Michael Janssen, both entitled FRESCO. During his residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien Ank enquired in depth into ‚the surface of the work‘. Essentially his quest comes down to the question of where the surface in his work ends and where space begins.

Han Seok Hyun | Pumpkins in Berlin, A.D. 2016
Starting from the idea that the artificial is developing more and more influence in our everyday lives, Han Seok Hyun examines this phenomenon’s various manifestations. In a multifaceted use of installation, photography and sculpture, he draws the viewer’s attention to manipulations of nature that are viewed meanwhile as a matter of course.

Song Sung Jin | Postures
In his work, Song Sung Jin makes use of photography and installation as well as film in order to convey his observations of social constellations. Starting out from ideas of an urban organism, in which a discrepancy emerges between the individual and the collective, he aims to clarify the tense relations between the individual and the wider social construct for the viewers of his works.

Anahita Razmi | Term and Reversion
Appropriation, transfer and re-enactment are key concepts with which to characterize Razmi’s practice. Her works deal primarily with cultural transfer, migration, and the associated changes in paradigms and perspectives. For “Term and Reversion”, among other things the artist collected common articles of cheap trade, as well as linguistic patterns along a contemporary „New Silk Road“.

Akiko Utsumi | Cryptophasia
Akiko Utsumi works in video, photography and installation. She uses these media to represent the past, future, and present in the continuity of time, high-lighting its interrelational aspect. No moment can exist without the previous or the following. Her piece Cryptophasia is based on a photo album that she found in a flea-market in Berlin.
